A Note for the Game Master
Thank you for considering this character for your campaign. This document contains a complete guide to Greg the Strategist, including his backstory, a balanced 20-level homebrew class designed to embody his unique skills, and built-in plot hooks for easy integration into your world. The goal is to provide you with a compelling character who will be a collaborative and supportive member of the party, designed from the ground up to make his allies shine.
Part I: Character Concept & Backstory
- Core Identity: Greg is a man out of time and place. A 34-year-old former military officer, he was inexplicably teleported into this world from the middle of a sales pitch in his previous life. He arrived with only the suit on his back and a shattered sense of reality. His past is defined by a significant military failure that ended his career and shattered his confidence. His present is a chaotic scramble for survival, using his cynical and pragmatic sales skills as a coping mechanism.
- Core Motivation: To find a new mission that gives his life meaning in this strange new world, and to prove to himself—and perhaps whatever force brought him here—that he is not a failure.
- Greatest Fear: That he will never understand what happened to him, that his past mistakes define him across realities, and that he will never be able to lead or be trusted again.
- The Core Mysteries (GM Plot Hooks): Greg's existence is wrapped in a multi-layered mystery, providing numerous plot hooks.
- The Displaced Man: How and why was he teleported here? Was it a random accident, a targeted abduction, or the act of some powerful being? Can he ever get back? More importantly, as he builds a new life, will he even want to?
- The Blank Slate: Greg cannot remember the name of the company he worked for or the product he was selling. The memory is a frustrating, inaccessible blank. Was this amnesia a side effect of the teleportation, or was the memory intentionally removed? Was his company involved in something that led to his arrival here?
- The Ghost in the Machine: Unbeknownst to him, Greg was mysteriously gifted the ability to understand and speak any language, a power he perceives as completely normal. The origin of this power is a "multiverse AI." Is this AI the agent of his displacement? Is the language ability a tool for a grander purpose? Is it responsible for his memory loss?

Part II: The Homebrew Solution - The Strategist Class
To best represent a character who is a seamless blend of a military tactician and a master negotiator from day one, we've developed "The Strategist." This custom class avoids the narrative dissonance of multiclassing by providing a cohesive set of abilities that grow with the character. It's a non-magical martial support class, trading raw damage for tactical control and social expertise.
